As a very young child, I began keeping boxes of collected rocks beneath my bed. I'm sure, at the time, I had no idea of the power stored within these creations, or the magick they could wield. I just loved the rocks...the look of them, the feel of them in my hands, and even the smell of them.
I believe that most children are drawn instinctively to those things in nature that contain ancient magicks, ancient powers and strengths. And I believe that they hold within their subconscious this esoteric knowledge; indefinable, ethereal as it is, until one day-- someone tells them not to.
Fortunately, for so many, once we've grown, we rediscover this lost knowledge. And I believe, if you're here, you are drawn to crystals and stones just as instinctively as am I.
Upon this page you will find my personal information for charging, cleansing, and using various crystals and stones for magickal workings. By scrolling further below, you will also find correspondences for these magickal objects that will help you receive the most benefit from their magickal use.

(The photo above is a small sample of my own stones. A few of them were gifted to me and the rest I chose and purchased myself.)
How do you choose your own crystals and stones?
I don't think there are any hard and fast rules for this. It has to do with the type of stone you need for the intended purpose, of course. But it also has to do with the depth of color, the shape, patterns that may be found upon it, and most importantly of all-- the 'feel'.
I don't believe anyone can choose a stone for someone else, not even in a piece of jewelry. You have to choose it yourself, or rather, it chooses you. And yes, I do believe there is a great deal of truth to that statement. I've been looking over stones in a shop before, and I've had one catch my eye. Even though I continue sorting through a whole handful of the same type of stone, that particular one will keep drawing my attention back to it.
Don't be afraid to dive in, hold the stones in your hands, rub them between your fingers, turn them over in your palm and really look at them, listen to them, feel them-- feel them beyond just their physical presence, pay attention to the energy they are emitting.
Take your time, don't let anyone rush you, and don't let anyone talk you into purchasing a stone you don't feel drawn to. You also want to make sure that the dealer you're buying them from is offering the stones at a fair price. Some merchants tend to get a little slap happy when tacking a value on their wares. Stop at more than one shop and compare prices-- this also applies if you are purchasing your stones off the internet.
Now you've purchased your lovely handful of gemstones and taken them home with you-- It's time to cleanse them, to wash away all the accumulated energy they've picked up sitting around the shop, being handled by merchants and customers, passed from hand to hand.
How do you cleanse your crystals and stones?
The easist way, and the way I prefer myself, is to hold them under running water. There is nothing more absolutely cleansing, clarifying, and rejuvenating than the magick of water. Period. I 'know' my stones and crystals are truly cleansed after doing this; I can feel the difference. If you feel a heaviness to any of your stones--as in energy, or they have been used for some particularly heavy duty rituals or healing, this is the best method and the most complete method of cleansing.
Another way to cleanse your stones, and a way I've used myself when I'm in a rush, is to hold them in incense smoke. This is fast, easy, and it does the trick for light cleansing. Though I still advise, if your stones are particularly heavy with negative energy, use the first method.
You can also leave them lay in moonlight overnight, or you can fill a bowl with salt and cover them for a period of time determined by you, till they feel 'clean'. You can even immerse them in a bowl of water to which a pinch of salt has been added-- but be cautious about this method if your stones are polished and finished, because the salt water will ruin the finish on your shiny stone.
(My lilac kunzite crystal...purchased at Next Millennium in Omaha, Nebraska. Charlie has a wide assortment of gemstones and crystals to choose from, and I've purchased many a stone from this shop. You can also purchase items online.)
You can take the energy wielded by specific crystals and stones and use it to your advantage in the most important space you have-- your home. You can change the atmosphere, discharge frenetic energy, repel negativity, fill a space with healing energy, or energy for peace, love, lust, health, etc.
We're even going to go one step further and use "lo shu".
I know, the possibilities are endless, the amount of knowlege is overwhelming, and the whole concept of using these magickal objects is incredibly exciting to me. It must be to you as well, or you wouldn't be here.
We're going to work just a bit with the Chinese art of placement called 'Feng Shui'. We're going to incorporate a "Lo Shu Grid" of numbers that is inspired by the plan of nine chambers or rooms in the ideal home according to this ancient art. Not everyone's home is going to fit all nine places on this grid. Mine doesn't. We're lacking three; and although this grid is treated as a map of the 'ideal' home, modern individual homes are going to vary greatly...so don't fret.
Lo Shu grid for the Northern Hemisphere:
East South West
North Lo shu grid for the Southern Hemisphere: West North East South
Lo shu grid for the Southern Hemisphere:
West North East
Now, using the grid above and the information below, you're all set to put new harmony into your living space...
1. Find the cardinal points in your home, using a compass if you have to-- especially if you're blessed with a sense of direction as bizarre as mine.
2. Make sure you're using the correct grid for your hemisphere.
3. Select a crystal from the list below and position it in your home, close to it's corresponding compass point indicated on the grid. You can tuck it in a drawer, hide it on a bookshelf, display it as something beautiful, or even bury it at the edge of your property-- it's totally up to you.
4. Once this crystal is in place, it's energy will start to work for you-- it will align your home with all natural forces, attune you to the cycles that make up your life, and change the energy in your surroundings in innumerable positive ways.
5. You can continue to add crystals, in accordance with their position on the grid.

It should be noted that the eastern tradition of elements are slightly different than that of the western tradition, which is what I normally adhere to in my spiritual practices. The western tradition includes Earth, Air, Fire, & Water; where as the eastern tradition includes Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Metal, & Wood.

Earth: Stones for this element are useful in promoting peace, grounding and centering of energies, fertility, money, business success, stability, gardening, and agriculture. Candles used in conjunction with these stones should be green.
Air: Air is the element of communication, travel, and the intellect. It's color is yellow.
Fire: Fire stones are used for protection, defensive magic, magickal energy, physical strength, courage, will power (such as in dieting), and purification. Candle color is red.
Water: Stones of this element are used in love rituals and for healing, compassion, reconciliation, friendship, purification, de-stressing, peace, sleep, dreams, and psychism. The corresponding candle color is blue.
The stones I prefer to use for this process includes:
Citrine—solar plexus chakra
Rose quartz—heart chakra
Blue lace agate—throat chakra
Make sure the recipient of this charka balancing session is reclining comfortably. Place a small pillow under their head and one beneath their knees if they wish, to relieve back strain.
Before I begin, I explain to the recipient what I’m going to do, and I use this opportunity to assure them they can place the stones for the root chakra and the breast chakra (if the client is female) themselves. Above all else, you don't want to make the client feel uncomfortable, or that their private space has been invaded in any way.
To lay the stones, begin at the feet with a smoky quartz, if you choose to use this stone in this position. This is a good practice to facilitate grounding. Otherwise begin at the root chakra, placing the hematite stone, or having the client place the stone, on the pubic bone.
Everyone’s body shape is different, and it may be awkward or impossible to get a stone to lie in this spot for some people. If that is the case—the body, in this position, forms a ‘Y’; place the stone at the base of the ‘v’ formed by the crease of the legs, at the top of the thighs, and at the base of the genital area.
Place the carnelian stone over the sacral chakra, the lower abdomen. In women, this would be where the womb and ovaries are located.
Next, is the solar plexus, located approximately three inches above the naval. Here, place the citrine crystal.
At the heart chakra, between the breasts, you’ll lay a stone of rose quartz. If your client is a female, she may be more comfortable placing this stone herself.
To lay a stone for the throat chakra, place the blue lace agate at the base of the throat, in the hollow that you will generally find here.
The third eye chakra can be found between the eyebrows and just slightly above them. Gently lay the sodalite stone in this spot. Occasionally you will have a client who feels the weight of this stone, no matter how small, very acutely. Be careful in placing the stone in this very sensitive spot, and reassure the recipient that sensations she/he may feel are not unusual.
For the crown chakra, you will want to take your amethyst crystal and lay it gently on the pillow just above the client’s head. Tuck it up close so that it’s in contact with the body.
There, you have your crystals and stones in place. Allow the client to remain laying in this position for 15-20 minutes. It helps to set the tone if you have some soft ambient music in the background, perhaps a subtle incense, and low lighting or candlelight. It also helps the client to relax if they feel secure, knowing that their privacy will not be violated, and that they will not be interrupted.
Make sure your client knows that if any of the stones happen to slip from their position during this process, they should leave them lay and not try to replace them. This often means that the stone’s work is done.
After 15 or 20 minutes, we’ll now check the chakras for inconsistencies in their energy…
I personally prefer a pendulum for this process, and you may find that this works well for you too.
Checking the Chakras:
Beginning at the root chakra and working your way up hold the pendulum a few inches above the body and give it a few moments to work. If it swings back & forth, side-to-side to the body, it means that this chakra is blocked. If the pendulum swings back and forth head-to-toe, in line with the body, it means that the chakra needs to be re-energized but is not blocking the passage of energies from the other chakras. A positive movement of the pendulum, which for me is a circle, means that this chakra is just fine.
You can proceed two ways-- either by automatically re-energizing all the chakras, regardless of your pendulum findings; or simply by re-energizing and unblocking the problem chakras. When you work on any of the problem chakras, remember to check them again with your pendulum once you've cleared and re-energized them. If you're really thorough, and your client hasn't been laying flat for an uncomfortable length of time, you can recheck all of the chakras at the end of this process.
To clear and re-energize the chakras, I use a three inch clear quartz crystal point.
First, remove the negative energy and etheric trash from the chakra: Lay the quartz crystal in your receiving hand with the point away from you; place your projective hand, facing downward, at your side, aimed towards the ground to harmlessly disperse this negative energy back to the earth. Hold your receiving hand just above the chakra you’re working on and slowly begin to move this hand with the crystal in it in small counter-clockwise rotations, lifting it higher and higher from the body as you do.
You may or may not notice strange physical sensations with the actual movement of energy. Some people do and some don’t. Just because you may not feel any physical sensation, it does not mean that what you’re doing isn’t working—it just may be very subtle, or you are not picking it up for some reason.
Once you’ve ‘pulled’ the negative energy out of the chakra, and you feel that it’s as cleared as you can get it, you are going to re-charge it with positive energy: Take the clear quartz crystal and place it in your projective hand with the point facing towards you. Hold your receiving hand out to your side, palm up to draw positive energy inward. Holding your projective hand containing the crystal a ways above the chakra that you’re working on, begin to move this hand in small ever-widening clockwise circles, moving closer and closer to your client’s body and the chakra. Stop just above it.
Circle the area as often as you feel you need to, and at slower or faster speeds, until you feel that enough positive energy has moved through your receiving hand, along your arms, and exited through your projective hand and the crystal into the client’s body.
Now you can use your pendulum to check the energy of this chakra. Hopefully all is well and you’ll be able to move on to the next chakra; if not, repeat the process until you get a positive reading from your pendulum letting you know that the chakra has been properly cleared and reenergized.
Make sure that throughout this process you remember to ask your client from time to time if they’re comfortable, and don’t make anyone lay on their back for too extended a period. Some people with blocked energy and unbalanced chakras may need more than one session to clear things up.
Once you are finished and have reached the end of this session with your client, remove the stones that have been placed upon the chakras at the beginning of the session, do so starting with the crown chakra and work your way down. Removing the stones in this progression, ending with the hematite stone at the root chakra, or the smoky quartz if you’ve placed one at their feet, facilitates grounding.

In general, crystals and stones used for healing are used in a variety of ways…They are worn on the body as pendents, rings, etc.; carried on the person in pockets, mojo bags, and such; used as healing pendulums suspended above the affected areas; placed directly on the affected body part or placed on the appropriate chakra; and sometimes they are used to create healing tinctures that are taken internally, applied to affected body areas, or sprayed around a space, and that’s what we’re going to look at here.
The following information is taken from: "Crystal Prescriptions" by Judy Hall, and you can find a link to her book in the list of credits at the bottom of this page.
Making a Crystal Remedy
All you need to make a crystal remedy is the appropriate crystal, which has been cleansed and purified, one or two clean glass bowls, spring water and a suitable bottle in which to keep it (colored glass is preferable to clear as it preserves the vibrations better.)
Remedies can be made by the direct or indirect method. Spring water should be used rather than tap water that has chlorine, fluoride and aluminium added to it. Water from a spring with healing properitesis particularly effective.
Place enough spring water in a glass bowl to cover the crystal. Stand the bowl in sunlight for several hours. (If the bowl is left outside, cover with a glass lid or clingwrap to prevent insects falling into it.) If appropriate, the bowl can also be left overnight in moonlight.
*Some stones, such as Malachite, Sulphur, Galena and Vanadinite, are toxic and remedies from these stones need to be made by an indirect method that transfers the vibrations of the stones without transferring any of the toxic material from which the stone is formed. if in doubt– use the indirect method.
Place the crystal in a small glass bowl and stand the bowl within a large bowl that has sufficient spring water to raise the level above the crystal in the inner bowl. Stand the bowl in sunlight for several hours. (If the bowl is left outside, cover with a glass lid or clingwrap.) If appropriate, the bowl can also be left overnight in moonlight.
Bottling and Preserving
If the remedy is not to be used within a day, top up with two-thirds brandy, vodka or cider vinegar to one-third remedy, otherwise the remedy will become musty. This makes a ‘mother remedy’ that can be further diluted. To make a small dosage bottle, add seven drops of the mother remedy to pure water if using immediately. For prolonged use, vodka makes a useful preservative as it has no smell.
Using a Crystal Remedy
For short-term use, a remedy can be sipped every few minutes or rubbed on the affected part. Hold the water in your mouth for a few moments. If a droper bottle has been made, drop seven drops under your tongue at regular intervals until the symptoms or condition ceases.
Remedies can also be applied to the skin, either at the wrist or over the site of a problem, or added to bath water.
If a spray bottle is made, spray all around the aura or aournd the room. this is particularly effective for clearing negative energies, espeically from a sickroom or an electromagnetically or emotionally stressed place.

The ring above is my newest purchase, and no, this one isn’t going up for sale at Enchanted Jewelry. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. As you can see, this ring contains five individual stones of completely different types– ocean jasper, citrine, garnet, peridot, & aquamarine. I wanted to see what kind of magickal/therapeutical energies would be combined altogether in this one magnificent piece of jewelry, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do now with the help of Judy Hall’s book:
Beginning at the top of the ring, we’ll work our way down…

Aquamarine’s color comes from minute traces of iron. Said to protect sailors at sea and to guard against drowning, it was the stone of the sea goddess and counteracted the forces of darkness, gaining favor from the spirits of light. A wonderful stone for meditation, Aquamarine shields the aura, invokes high sates of consciousness, and encourages service to humanity. With an affinity to sensitive people, it invokes tolerance and supports anyone overwhelmed by responsibility. Breaking self-defeating programs, it leads to dynamic change. Useful for closure on all levels, this stone is helpful in understanding underlying emotional states and in interpreting how you feel. Removing extraneous thought, Aquamarine filters information reaching the brain and clarifies perception.
To begin the new year, I felt that a crystal grid to promote energy for good health and prosperity was in order. I sat this grid up on the kitchen table, along with four tea candles, and we wallowed in new-age health and prosperity energy till we were up to our eyeballs in it. If you’d like to follow suit and bring this energy into your space, into your life, and into manifestation, here’s what I used and how I did it:
My center stone is a large selenite crystal used as the energy generator, or battery, for this grid. Selenite is the one crystal that supposedly never needs to be cleansed. It’s energy is pure and constantly moving- this is a high vibrational stone; this makes selenite the perfect battery for any of the crystal grids you decide to create.
Selenite: Planet/Moon; zodiac sign/Gemini; chakra/third eye; energy/receptive or feminine; element/Water. Magickally speaking: selenite induces clarity of thought and perception, it ignites a higher consciousness that allows access to energies found on other planes. This crystal also anchors the lighter ethereal side of our being to the slower heavier vibration of earth, of matter. Selenite is a powerful crystal and can be used for scrying the past, present, future. Selenite stabilizes erratic emotional energy and connects the conscious part of our mind to the sub-conscious, allowing for clear thoughts and unexpected revelations. This beautiful crystal is also an excellent provider of protection, bringing peace and security into your home.
The stones situated evenly around the selenite crystal, the inner ring, include eight stones: four blue lace agates, two aventurines, and two bloodstone.
Blue Lace Agate: Planet/Mercury; zodiac sign/Gemini; chakra/third eye; energy/receptive or feminine; element/Water. Magickally speaking: This is a serene stone conducive to relaxation and destressing. Blue lace agate promotes a peaceful atmosphere within a space and among individuals who inhabit this space. This is the primary stone I use for healing the body, mind, and spirit. Holistically speaking: The blue agate stabilizes the aura, transforms negative energy, and is conducive to healing any problems with the digestive system, including the stomach; the eyes, uterus, lymphatic system, pancreas, and skin.
Aventurine: Planet/Mercury; zodiac sign/Aries; chakra/heart; energy/projective or masculine; element/Air. Magically speaking: aventurine is used to manifest spells of prosperity and is used as a lucky talisman by gamblers. It is considered an all around good luck stone. Holistically speaking: green aventurine is used to treat malignant maladies; disorders of the heart; blood-pressure; cholesterol; metabolism; allergies; migraines and eye strain; sinus infections; and issues with the lungs and urogenital systems. Aventurine enhances intelligence and increases creativity. It’s a very calming stone and also lends itself to promoting peace and releasing stress.
Bloodstone: Planet/Mars; zodiac sign/Aries, Libra, Pisces; chakra/heart, cleanses & realigns the lower chakras; energy/projective or masculine; element/Fire. Magickally speaking: In ancient Babylon this stone was believed to have the power to overthrow enemies. Bloodstone is used in magickal spells for legal, business, and financial matters; for invisibility spells; and for spells promoting personal protection, including issues of banishing negative influences and healing any wounds in the ancestral line. Holistically speaking: The most potent thing bloodstone is used for is to halt bleeding; issues with the blood and the circulatory system; miscarriages; health issues with the liver, intestines, kidney, and spleen; infections; and fevers. Bloodstone is considered a general health enhancing talisman.
The outside ring of crystals is made up entirely of clear quartz crystal points. Five of these were rough unfinished crystals, and three of them were very small polished quartz crystal points. The purpose of these crystal points is to keep the energy moving, to raise the power level of your grid, basically- to keep the magick flowing smoothly in a positive direction. They are placed with the points all headed in the same direction, and in a direction that suggests a clockwise movement.
Clear Quartz Crystal: Planet/Moon & Sun; zodiac sign/All of them; chakra/harmonizes all the chakras & aligns the aura; energy/projective & receptive, or both masculine & feminine; element/Fire & Water. Magickally speaking: clear quartz crystal is used in spells to enhance power; for weather magic- to bring rain; it’s used in the creation of magic wands for shamans, esteemed in the Native American traditions for its power; and is connected to the Goddess and full moon rituals by some Wiccan traditions. It is symbolic of spirit and the divine, and it is a wildly popular new-age stone. Holistically speaking: Clear quartz crystal is considered a tremendously powerful energy generator; it’s believed to generate electromagnetism and to dispel static electricity; it regulates energy; heals karmic wounds; and is considered a master healer that covers almost any condition.
